We are just a few days away from our dedication service! So many preparations have gone into this day and we are excited to dedicate our new space to the glory of God. We have one service at 10:30 this Sunday followed by a reception and open house.

Thank you to all who have donated time and items for the building addition. To honor our 159 year history, Second Century Committee members are working with members/carpenters to repurpose the wood stairway railing, posts, balusters, and trim removed during the construction. Some of the century old reclaimed wood will be transformed into wall mounted coat racks in classrooms.
We invite everyone to bring an item which can be used as hooks/hangers on the coat racks; modern or antique hook, door handle, door knob, drawer handle. A container will be left at the church to put the items in, please include name (for thank you’s).
We are also inquiring about historical items for display and use, i.e. church pew (pre 1968), paintings, pictures, hardware, bookshelves, doors.

The Halfway Creek Mixed Choir and Women’s Choir will be joining forces for the Building Dedication on Sunday, May 31st at the 10:30 service. The combined choirs will be singing two pieces and women’s choir will be singing one piece alone. All interested singers are invited to join either one or both groups for this special celebration in the life of the congregation. Please Contact Us if you would like to participate.
In order to encourage participation, Sunday morning rehearsal time will be shared by both groups. Halfway Creek Mixed Choir will offer an additional rehearsal opportunity for those singers who can’t attendSunday morning rehearsals. Rehearsals will begin after Easter Sunday. The April rehearsal schedule is as follows:

Our church addition was blessed to receive a donation of wood trim. The trim (door & window casing and wood base) needs to have the finished removed so it can be re-stained to coordinate with Halfway Creek’s stain color.
There are two opportunities scheduled this weekend for members to assist in this process:

Outreach & Fellowship will be providing light snacks and water.

The building project is moving along quickly and the materials to frame out the addition have arrived! We are going to bring in one of the 2×4’s and we invite you (and your family) to write a blessing or simply sign your name on the 2×4. It will eventually be included in the frame of the new addition. Thank you!

We will not have hot water in the church for a few weeks as we begin the construction project. However, this inconvenience can be used as an opportunity to remember those who never have hot water or who don’t have a means to use hot water to clean their belongings. For the month of August, we would like to collect donations of laundry detergent. We will then donate it all to the TLC Center (or a similar service organization) so that detergent can be given to those who utilize laundromats. Any kind of detergent is fine…pods, bottles, liquid, powder, etc. You can place your donations in the bin labelled “detergent” in the back of the sanctuary. Thanks for your generosity!

On Sunday, June 22, the congregation of Halfway Creek Lutheran Church accepted a donation of land to the East of our church. This generous donation will bring our current building into compliance with current county zoning and will allow the addition to meet zoning requirements as well. Now that the congregation has accepted the land, we need only to ask the county to rezone the new property to match the zoning of our existing building. This Sunday we will be holding a congregational meeting following the 9:00 a.m. worship service for the purpose of accepting a gift of land which will enable our congregation to bring both our existing building and building project into compliance with current zoning codes, side yard distance, and setback requirements. Once the gift of the land is accepted, it can be rezoned so that we can commence construction with the building project.
All eligible voting members are encouraged to attend. Per our constitution, voting members are confirmed members who have communed in this congregation and have made a contribution of record to this congregation during the current or preceding calendar year. We will have childcare available for the meeting. Following the meeting, we will have fellowship and refreshments!
